September 22 - December 15, 2019

Schedule for Fall, 2019

MYCO's chamber music and chamber orchestra rehearsals will take place on Sunday afternoons between September 22 and December 15, 2019 at UNC Chapel Hill's campus.  The final concert will take place on the afternoon of Sunday, December 15 in Moeser Auditorium at UNC-CH.

Each student will have activities from either 12:15-4 or 2:30-6:15 each Sunday afternoon.

Weekly chamber rehearsals are from 12:15 to 2:15 and 4:15-6:15. Each student generally plays in one chamber group (ie. either the 12:15-2:15 slot OR the 4:15-6:15 slot).

Chamber orchestra rehearsals, master classes, and other group activities for all students will take place from 2:30-4:00.

Weekly activities

Every chamber music group will meet for two hours each Sunday afternoon: one hour of coaching with their regular coach, and one hour of rehearsal. The exciting roster of coaches includes: Verona Quartet, Nicholas DiEugenio, Gabriel Richard, Grace Anderson, Teddy Robie, and Mimi Solomon. Guest artists include flutist Alexa Sopp and Hungarian/English pianist Peter Frankl.

All string players will participate in a chamber orchestra project led by Artistic Director Nicholas DiEugenio and Artistic Director and MYCO founder Yoram Youngerman. During orchestra rehearsals, pianists will participate in activities based upon the chamber orchestra project including score study, learning about the background of the pieces, writing program notes, and playing 2-hand and 4-hand music inspired by the semester's chamber orchestra works.

Students will have the opportunity to perform in master classes with several guest artists including pianist Keiko Sekino, cellist Emanuel Gruber.

The weekly schedule will be supplemented with  improvisation classes,  score reading classes for pianists, discussions about performance comportment, and professional chamber music performances.

New Students

We welcome new intermediate and advanced string players and pianists age 10-18 to audition for MYCO before the beginning of each semester as well as before the summer workshop.

For new students: the registration deadline is August 30, 2018. Please register, and you will be contacted with an audition time and place. Please contact MYCO's registrar at if you have any questions.

Audition requirements:

Please prepare a five to ten minute audition that is representative of your playing.

Your selection(s) may come from a single work or from multiple pieces or etudes.  Play music that you are confident and familiar with, and avoid auditioning with a piece that is new to you.

You will also be asked to sight-read in your audition.

Daily scales/arpeggios are expected of every MYCO student, but will not be assessed at your audition.
