Chamber music and its values are at the heart of MYCO. Chamber music values — collaboration, communication, creativity and artistry — are what MYCO strives to foster in all of its activities.

In 2023-2024, MYCO students will participate in weekly chamber music groups, as well as improvisation workshops, master classes, piano seminar, and other activities. MYCO activities take place on Sunday afternoons in the music buildings at UNC-CH.

MYCO will offer a special chamber orchestra project for all students at the end of each semester, during which students will have the chance to play and perform side-by-side with MYCO faculty and guest artists.

New Students

We welcome new intermediate and advanced string players and pianists age 10-18 to audition for MYCO before the beginning of each semester as well as before the summer workshop.

For new students: the registration deadline is August 20, 2023. Please register and send along an audition video (see guidelines below). Contact MYCO's registrar at myco.registrar@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Audition requirements:

Please record a five to ten minute audition that is representative of your playing. Send the audition video to myco.registrar@gmail.com

Your selection(s) may come from a single work or from multiple pieces or etudes.  Play music that you are confident and familiar with, and avoid auditioning with pieces that are new to you.

For the video: make sure that the shot offers a good view of yourself and your instrument.

Daily scales/arpeggios are expected of every MYCO student, but will not be assessed at your audition.
