About Us
The Mallarmé Youth Chamber Orchestra is a
pre-professional program for advanced string players, ages 10-18. This young group of
highly talented string players rehearses weekly, preparing several concerts
a year. The program focuses on string and chamber orchestra repertoire and
is designed to provide solo opportunities for young musicians of superb
ability, both from within the group and from the surrounding community.
The program is designed to provide young players with the opportunity not
only to participate in a large ensemble but also to experience and learn the
art of chamber music. In addition to the nucleus group, smaller ensembles
(such as string quartets) from within the group are formed and coached by
experienced chamber musicians. The program aims to provide young players
with the opportunity to develop their musicianship through peer work and
mutual learning.
Our future goals include developing an outreach program and exploring
performance possibilities both in the community and in other venues around
the country.
