About the Mallarmé Youth Chamber Orchestra
Founded in 2005, the Mallarmé Youth Chamber Orchestra is a pre-professional program
for students ages 11 to 18. The program focuses on orchestral and chamber music performance,
and is based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Directed by Yoram Youngerman, MYCO's orchestra rehearses on a regular basis, and students are also coached in
string quartets and other small chamber groups by professional chamber musicians. The Music Department
of UNC-Chapel Hill generously offers the use of their facilities to MYCO for both its year-round program
and its summer camp.
MYCO aims to provide its players with the opportunity to develop their musicianship skills
through peer work and mutual learning. As well, MYCO strives to enrich the cultural life of
the community by offering a variety of public performances each year.
Future goals include developing an outreach program, and exploring performance possibilities
throughout North Carolina, the Southeastern region, and nationally.
